Archie McLean Hawks papers
Scope and Contents
The collection consists primarily of correspondence, postcards, note cards, and telegrams from Ruth Wales du Pont to her aunt and uncle, Ethel Hawks and Archie McLean Hawks; one letter from Anna Anderson, and a transcription, are also included. The collection also contains an original manuscript, "Enchantment," written by Hawks that describes his 1870 train trip from St. Louis, Mo. to Bristol, R.I.

Biographical / Historical
Archie McLean Hawks (1865-1963) was the uncle of Ruth Wales du Pont, wife of Henry Francis du Pont. Hawks worked as an engineer throughout the western United States. He married Ethel Waddell and they had one child - Montgomery Waddell Hawks.

This collection was assembled over years, from 1969, 1973, and 1975, by transfers and gifts from various sources: in 1969, from the clerical division of the Wilmington, Del. Office of Henry Francis du Pont; in 1973, from the H.F. du Pont House at Winterthur; in 1975, as a gift.
