Alfred Craven Harrison papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of correspondence, invoices, and business and legal documents. The records reflect Alfred Harrison’s personal activities and involvement with the Winterthur Corporation; legal and financial matters involving the estates of Ruth Wales du Pont and Henry Francis du Pont; activities in Boca Grande Florida; and the rental matters concerning a New York Park Avenue apartment. The collection also contains a hotel bill from Claridge’s hotel in London, a letter from Elise Bordeaux-Groult, a friend in Paris, and a telegram to his mother Alison Gowen.

Biographical / Historical
Alfred Craven Harrison was an attorney in New York. He attended St. Paul’s School in Concord, N.H. and graduated from Harvard in 1936. In 1938, Harrison married Pauline Louise du Pont. He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the United Stated Navy during World War II. Harrison was a trustee of Winterthur Museum from 1949 to 1973 and served as its vice president from 1951 to 1973.

The collection is organized alphabetically by folder title. The lease agreements for an apartment on Park Avenue in New York City are stored separately to accommodate its size.
Custodial History
The collection is owned by the Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur Museum. It was assembled over years, from 1969-1975 by transfers and gifts from various sources: in 1969, from the clerical division of the Wilmington, Del. Office of Henry Francis du Pont; in 1970, from the financial division of the same office; and in 1975 as a gift.
