Anne Louise Hadley White papers
Scope and Contents
Includes a scrapbook, a cookbook, and a Forget Me Not Album (i.e. autograph album) created by Anne Hadley. The scrapbook consists of 101 color printed gift and trade cards advertising such products as Star cough drops, shoes, vaseline, Coats' thread, sarsaparilla, a Clinton, Mass., dry goods store, and painters' supplies. The firms represented were located in Massachusetts, New York, Washington, D.C., and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Many of the cards show either children engaged in various activities, flowers, or outdoor scenes. Laid inside the front cover is a watercolor of a bird; also laid into the album are some greeting cards, loose trade cards, and other drawings.
The autograph album contains seven signatures from friends and relatives of Hadley. Those who signed lived in Canton and Toledo, Ohio, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. The cookbook has recipes for such foods as bread, biscuits, cake, loaf, pie, and salad.

Biographical / Historical
Born Anne Louise Hadley (1873-1965), the keeper of these volumes later married General Grant White (1871-1951). The Whites were married in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1900. They later lived in San Antonio, Texas. Anne's father was Edwin Hadley. Grant White was a lawyer.

Physical Description
Scrapbook: front board almost detached; text-block detached from the spine and front board; paper brittle with discoloration; loose cards. The front cover and spine are decorated wtih flowers and other designs. Blind embossed on back cover: Pat. March 1876.
Cookbook: Ringed binder with torn paper cover; holes in some of the pages; torn,; loose pages; brittle. The name Grant White is written on front cover.
Forget-me-Not Album (acc. 91x104.2): dark red covers, with title and flowers stamped in gilt on front cover. Piece of scrap (child's head with wings) is also glued to front cover. The name Annie Hadley is written on front fly leaf.
