Content Description

Ledger of an unknown Lebanon County, Pennsylvania merchant, dated 1791-1794. The ledger details the sale of various goods such as silks and other fabrics, ribbons and threads, rum and spirits, tea, buckwheat, and other consumables, pewter plates, and other various dry good. Several customers were listed as having their "boy" with them, which may be in reference to a Black servant or enslaved person.

Throughout the ledger, various accounts are marked by small slips of paper.

Scope and Contents Double-entry accounting ledger for the full year of 1836, with the earliest entries dated January 1 and the latest December 31. Manuscript entries in a neat, even hand, with amounts recorded in two columns labeled "$" and "cts"; amounts in the cents column are sometimes fractional. Content Description Daybook for the years 1877-1942 with some gaps, primarily between 1895 and 1915, for a general store and farm in Dover, Delaware possibly owned by R. H. Lewis and later by R. E. Lewis. A frequent customer of the store is Dr. Edward Lewis, along with his wife and daughter.
