Scope and Contents
Consists of numbered illustrations showing baskets, glassware, a wide variety of toys, and a few other items. This German sample book, or catalog, opens with 11 pages of illustrated baskets, 3 styles of straw hats for men, various kinds of trim, and glassware (jars, beads, bottles, flasks, thermometers and other scientific implements, mirrors, and pipe bowls). Then, in the second part, 25 full and some partial leaves of illustrated dolls, games, play sets, and toys--shown at one sixth full size. The toys include Noah’s Arks, animal figures, scenes on wheels, toy cannon, guns, and swords, drums, bugles, recorders, violins, harps, table-top skittles games, jumping jacks, colorful doll furniture, a toy sawmill, boats, village and farm scenes, a Garden of Eden scene, sets of toy food and dishes, Nuremberg kitchens, undressed dolls (some with wooden bodies, some with cloth bodies), stables, carriages and sleighs, and roly-poly figures.
The catalog may have originated in Nuremberg, Germany, a city noted for toy manufactory and toy distribution in the 19th century.

Biographical / Historical
The maker of this catalog is not known for certain, although a researcher has identified it as being from Louis Lindner & Soehne of Sonneberg, Germany, near Coburg. In the 19th century, the town of Sonneberg was noted for the making of toys, musical instruments, and wooden wares.

Bound in gold-tooled leather boards; both hinges broken; some leaves loose. First leaf is paginated 12-13, followed by pages 16-25; then un-numbered leaf with ornate "Zweiter Theil." printed on recto and "Anmerkung." on verso, followed by pages 2-3, 6-35, 38-43, 48-55, 58-63, 106-111; numerous leaves, especially at end, are torn; some are bound in backwards.
