Content Description
Four WK-Wohnen photographic furniture trade catalogs and price list. The volumes include Speisezimmer or dining rooms, Herrenzimmer or gentlemen's studies, Schlafzimmer or bedrooms, and Klein Mobel Sitz. u. Polstermobel or small furniture, seating, and upholstered furniture. Designers represented in the catalogs include Albrecht & Mammelle, Bock & Feil, Kimpel, Bertram Schrot, Garter & Nietzner, and Schafer & Kirsch.
Of particular note are designs by Wilhelm Knoll and Walter Knoll. Wilhelm Knoll was a leather purveyor to the House of Wurttemberg, and manufacturer of the first leather upholstered club chairs in Germany. His son, Walter Knoll, went on to found his own furnture company in 1925, that championed the emerging Bauhaus style of design. His company has gone on to be a celebrated purveyor of modern design.

Biographical / Historical
WK-Wohnen, a German furniture and interior design firm, was founded in 1912 by Albert Schubert Ernst Lewent, Moritz Langenbach, and several others as the Deutsche Werkstatten fur Wohnkunst or the German Workshops for Interior Design. The firm was focused on the promotion of the new Bauhaus style of design. Following the end of World War II, the firm relaunched in Stuttgart, Germany in 1948, and continues today to promote modern design.
