This collection consists primarily of photocopies and transcriptions of archival material, including an account book, related to the pewter manufacturing firm Boardman & Hart of Hartford, Connecticut and New York, New York, all then held by the Connecticut State Library.

Also included in this collection is correspondence between Evans and the Connecticut State Library, regarding the loan of the Boardman & Hart material to the Winterthur Museum for the purposes of microfilming the material, as well as a copy of the acknowledgement letter sent by the Connecticut State Library to the donors of the Boardman & Hart material.

Biographical / Historical

Nancy Goyne Evans was a 1963 graduate of the University of Delaware/Winterthur Program in Early American Material Culture, then known as the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture, and long-time staff member and research fellow at the Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library.

A scholar of American material culture and decorative arts, Evans is best known for her scholarship on American Windsor chairs, including the seminal publications American Windsor Chairs, American Windsor Furniture: Specialized Forms, and Windsor Chairmaking in American before 1850: From Craftshop to Consumer.
