Biographical / Historical

Frank M. Whiting & Co. manufactured silverwork at its headquarters in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1878, and manufactured silver goods. Around 1940, it was acquired by Ellmore Silver Company. Little other information was found about the company. The founder was Frank Mortimer Whiting (1848-1892), the son of William Dean Whiting.

General Note

Photographs and cyanotypes are all mounted on either a fabric or on card stock. These leaves have been mounted in acid free boards. Many of the albums have been rebound. The original cover for acc. 80x163.3 is available.

Summary

The twelve binders in this collection contain about 500 mounted, numbered photographs of articles produced by the company. The photographs show such varied pieces as bowls, goblets, plates, trophies, napkin rings, tea strainers, platters, inkstands, corkscrews, and button hooks; and many more items. In one binder, the photographs are printed, numbered and titled as in a catalog. The last item in the collection is a bound volume of pencil drawings of spoons and other silverware.
