Content Description

Cyphering book kept by Job Shrev (also spelled Shreve), and dated 1805. The cyphering book covers mathematical topics such as simple interest, rebate or discount, barter, fellowship, loss and gains, exchange, vulgar fractions, and addition and subtraction of vulgar fractions. There are small drawings throughout, and at the bottom of page 108 is a draft of a short letter to an acquaintance noting a visit to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a lack of good skating.

Content Description A cyphering book kept by Nancy Cogswell, which she titled Nancy Cogswell's Book of Canterbury and dated January 8th, 1821. Topics covered include simple and compound addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, money, weights, and measures. The pages of the cypering book are loose in a paper wrapper, and also include several watercolor drawings, as well as a letter dated May 1st, 1826 written by Amos Cogswell and Laura Adams regarding the death of a man named...
